Assembly - Part 1

Assembly Part - Two

Cloth Covering

Step 1

With the featherstrip in the featherstrip groove make a mark at approximately the center of the featherstrip, this is so you can line up the featherstrip when the cloth is in the featherstrip groove.

Step 2

Place new cloth on rail with the playing side down. The cloth should have equal amount of over hang at both ends of the rail and extend 1/2" over the featherstrip groove toward the cushion.

Step 3

Starting in the middle of the featherstrip, except for approx. 3" at end of rail, tap featherstrip down with a tapping block and hammer.

Step 4

At each end of rail, pull the cloth toward the rubber cushion an additional 3/4" then tap the remainder of the featherstrip down.

Step 5

Trim the cloth on the cushion side of the featherstrip as shown.

Step 6

Trim the cloth on the cushion side of the featherstrip as shown.

Step 7

Make sure there are no stray cloth strands or anything else that can cause an uneven surface once the cloth is stapled in place.

Turn the rail over and at the corner pockets, fold the cloth over the mitered edges as shown, stretching tightly and working out any wrinkles as you staple the cloth in place.

Step 8

Starting at the center of the rail and working toward the pockets pull the cloth with an even pressure and staple in place. Make sure the staples are stapled into the staple groove.

Step 9

Trim off any excess cloth.

Before Bed Cloth Fitting

Before cloth-covering the slate, a strip of canvas (or table-cloth from the rails offcut) should be glued* to the vertical pocket cuts of the slates and their underlying wooden slate liner, this is to stop excessive wear when a ball bounces off the back of the pocket and hits the side of the slate.

*A spray adhesive great (it is only used to hold the strip of cloth in place while putting on the bed cloth.

Bed Cloth Fitting - Step 1

Make sure there are no stray cloth strands or anything else that can cause an uneven surface once the cloth is stapled in place.

Lay the bed cloth over the top of the bed, with the playing surface up. Staple about 5 staples at the head, stretch the cloth and staple about 5 staples at the foot.

Step 2

Pull the cloth to the middle pocket "half stretch" and staple in place, move to the other middle pocket and "half stretch" that side and staple in place. At this stage the weave of the cloth should not be distorted if you look down the length of the table.

Step 3

Now you can cut slices into the cloth in the pockets in order to help stretch and work out the wrinkles.

Step 4

Once the pockets are wrinkle free, work your way around the table stretching and stapling then moving to the opposite side and repeating until the entire bed is tight and wrinkle free. If you rub the palm of your hand along the cloth it should not be able to cause a wrinkle.
Locate the 18 rail mounting holes and with a sharp blade, cut out the cloth covering the hole in order for the rail bolt to pass through.
