Crate 1 of 2....... (crate 2 contains 3 pieces of slate)

Step 1

Place the table frame up-side-down in the center of the room.

Step 2

Mount the four legs using only 1 bolt (B1) and 1 washer (W1) in the center of each leg, at this stage it is only necessary to nip the bolt tight.

Step 3

Turn the table right-side-up.

Step 4

Install the final two bolts (B2) and washers (W2) in each leg and tighten all three bolts. Make sure not to over tighten these bolts.

Step 5

Center the table in your room and using a machine level make sure the frame is level on all sides. It may be necessary to use shims to get your table level, in this case place the shims between the floor and the leg and check for level. Repeat as necessary.

Step 6

Mount the eight slate mounting brackets (two per side) to the allocated mounting points using the screws provided with the mounting brackets.(the screw holes are pre drilled), the brackets should be slightly lower than the frame of the table.

Step 7

Place the slate onto the frame, starting with the center slate and centering it as accurately as possible. The two end pieces of slate are matched to the center piece so it is important to locate the large red semi-circle on the top of the center slate and match up the end pieces with this semi-circle. Your three pieces of slate should now be perfectly centered over the frame of the table.

Step 8

Using your level, make sure the center slate is level on both the length and the width. It may be necessary to use shims (playing cards work well) to get your slate level, in this case place the shims between the slate backing board and the cross beams and/or table frame and check for level. Repeat as necessary.

When the center slate is level repeat this process on the end slates, making sure that where the two pieces of slate meet it is as smooth as possible.

Step 9

Drill the pilot holes into the slate mounting brackets and secure the slate with the long wood screws (S1). At this point you will have to tighten the screws a little at a time in order to remove the "lip" between the slates while at the same time making sure the slates are perfectly level.

Step 10

There are many fillers or putties that can be used. We recommend Bostik Builders Bog. The 600ml tin is sufficient to do the job. Please follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 11

Once the three pieces of slate are as level as possible and the seam is as smooth as possible you will need to clean the seam.

Step 12

Mix the filler according to the manufacturer’s instructions and apply with a putty knife.

Step 13

Using the putty knife, spread the filler along the seam so that the mix fills any uneven areas, at this time fill the four center mounting slate holes and any nicks and scratches that the slate might have. You may have to repeat this process until you have a perfectly flat surface. Now it's time for the cloth.
